My annual summer vacation
this year was different from what we usually do. My Mom, Dad, Brother & I
decided to visit the East Coast and learn and see where history was created and
where the great leaders of our nation were born.
Our first stop was our nations
Capitol “ Washington DC”!!!!!!!
I was so excited to finally
see all the places that I had only read about in my history books. “ This was going to be a fun adventure of
learning and discovery”.
The first place we visited
was the International Spy Museum.
The Spy Museum had lots of cool facts about real spies who helped capture and
take down a lot of important people. There were lots of cool gadgets to see as
well…. I got a slap bracelet that said,
“Deny Everything” and best of all a
Shocking Pen. “ I’m on a mission to trick
people with the pen”.
The Next day we went to the National Smithsonian Mall. This is
where the Washington Monument, The
Lincoln Memorial, and a lot of museums are. We went to the National Museum of American History. I
saw the original flag and above it was the National Anthem. There were lots of
interesting things to see at the AHM. After that we were waiting in one of the
longest lines in the history of the world, to me atleast. This line was outside
the National Archives; I couldn’t
wait to go inside as I was waiting to be able to see the Constitution, Bill of Right & Declaration of Independence. They
were all sealed in a special box to preserve them. I got to see John Hancock’s signature, which was
really larger than everyone else’s. I learned that he was the first one to sign
the Declaration of Independence and also the reason he signed it so big was
because he wanted the governor to notice his signature even without his
glasses. I also learned that another name for signature is called “John Hancock “ as he made it famous with
his big signature on the DOI.
After that we went to a
Popcorn Cart and had some popcorn and some very cold water. My mom took some
random pictures when we were waiting to go to the National Air & Space Museum. When we got to the Space Museum, it
was different because before all we were doing was stuff about history. After
that we were going to the Washington Monument to take some pictures. It was a
long walk. Then we took pictures of the World
War II Memorial and my mom told me the history of WW II. Then My Dad &
I walked up to the Lincoln Memorial.
My teacher said it was One hundred steps but it didn’t feel like it was and we
also saw the view from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument. Our
feet were tired. We had walked a lot and we were ready to go to the hotel and
relax.
Our last day in DC was exciting
as we went to see the White House. On
our way it started raining, so my Mom & I ran to see it and my Dad &
Brother stayed in the car. We got some good shots of the White House even
though it was pouring. Then we went to Mount
Vernon. That was really cool
!!! Mount Vernon is the home of our first
president George Washington, who
happens to be one of my favorite Presidents. I learned a lot on this trip and
had a lot fun too.
